The Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi has terminated the appointments of 1800 aides over their nonchalant attitude toward reviving the agricultural sector in the state.

The categories of aides affected include, Executive Assistants, Senior Technical Assistant and Technical Assistants.

Governor Umahi announced the termination of the appointments while signing the revised 2020 budget of the state into law in a virtual ceremony although stakeholders where physically present at the Ecumenical Centre in the state capital, Abakaliki.

The Governor stated that the termination of appointment is effective from the 1st of August, 2020.

He stated that the affected aides will be able to reapply for their old positions according to their capabilities. Their re-absorption into the service of the state government will then be subject to approval by the State Ministries, Departments and Agencies where their new application has been submitted.

Governor Umahi however gave a caveat saying any of the affected aides attempting to re-apply into the service of the state must have and operate a farm. He said it was a fundamental part of his administration to shift the focus of residents in the state from government appointments to economic sustainability.

“If you are reapplying, you must explain what you did before, show where your farm is and be sponsored by either Commissioners, SAs, SSAs, Boards and Commissions,” he said.
