Government is not to blame for Power Failure – Lai Mohammed

1 Min Read

The minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed said that Nigerians must come to grips with the fact that government is not fully responsible for the power crisis in the country.

The minister made the statement on Channels TV Sunrise Daily.

Responding to questions on the recent power blackout, Mohammed said that the combination of vandalism, sabotage, industrial action and routine maintenance on the Nigerian Gas Company pipelines was responsible for the drop in power which reached peak output of over 5000 megawatts on February 2nd.

Mohammed also stated that government had sold its stake in the power sector and was now playing the role of a regulator. He said Nigerians should also brace themselves for an increase in the price of power as the price of the raw material for generating power, gas, had gone up over 400% from $1 to $4.
