Government Dislodge Miscreants, Beggars Occupying Pedestrian Bridges

In line with the directive by the Lagos state government that residents should stop crossing roads but use pedestrian bridges, officials of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, on Monday, dislodged miscreants and beggars occupying pedestrian bridges in the state.

The pedestrian bridges which are usually congested because of the beggars and hoodlums before now are usually not an option to residents.

However, the Lagos state government stated on Sunday that they would prosecute any pedestrians caught crossing the highways instead of the bridges.

In a statement shared on his X official account, the Lagos state Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, noted that they had received lots of complaints from residents concerning the operation of the beggars and miscreants.

He further stated that due to the complaints and the directive by the state government that pedestrians must ply the bridges made for them, they had to ensure that they decongest the bridges because both the miscreants and beggars have been stopping many from using the bridge.

In the statement, Wahab also revealed that the enforcement operation was led by Corps Marshal, Major Olatunbosun Cole (retd.) on Monday on the Oshodi and Ikeja-along pedestrian bridges.

The statement partly reads, “While we encourage Lagosians to desist from crossing the highways and use the pedestrian bridges, this enforcement will be conducted and sustained across the state and any person found constituting a threat to the safety of pedestrians on highways will be apprehended and prosecuted by the courts to serve as a deterrent to others.”
