Inaugurating the committee in Gombe on Saturday, Yahaya said that the measures against the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic had put people in economic difficulties.

“We are fully aware of the hardship being experienced particularly by the daily earners whose living depend on their ability to go out and mingle with others. However, these are sacrifices that we must make to save lives.

“As a concerned government and to ameliorate the economic hardships brought about by the restrictions imposed to control the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.

According to him, we are obliged to provide support and relief to the people, most especially the vulnerable ones among us who live on daily wages.

The governor said:“The terms of reference of the committee are to develop an equitable distribution framework for delivering the relief support to the beneficiaries.

“To undertake a general situational assessment and identify the households/individuals that are eligible to receive the palliative support

“To ensure that relief items reach the deserving beneficiaries in all the 114 wards of the 11 local governments in the state.

“To solicit for donation of palliatives and other relief materials from the general public to complement government efforts in this regard.”

Yahaya also said that the committee would prepare and present periodic progress report to government.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Alhaji Abubakar Shehu-Abubakar, Emir of Gombe and Mela Nunghe are the Chairman and Secretary respectively.

Shehu-Abubakar thanked the governor for finding them worthy to serve and assured that they would discharge their responsibilities accordingly.

He urged wealthy individuals, private organisations and NGOs to contribute their own part as government could not  do it alone.
