Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers on Thursday launched a “comprehensive reconstruction’’ project for the state’s General Hospitals at Nchia and Okrika in Eleme and Okrika Local Government Areas.
Special Assistant to the governor on Electronic Media, Mr Simeon Nwakaudu, made the disclosure on Thursday in an electronic statement issued to newsmen in Abuja.
He said the governor also launched “total rehabilitation of Government Secondary School at Ogu in Ogo-Bolo Local Government Area, and construction of internal roads in Okrika.
Speaking while inaugurating the hospital reconstruction project at Nchia, Wike said the facility had been abandoned for 30 years.
He said his administration was committed to the provision of quality healthcare facilities to improve the living condition of the people.
The governor said that the Okrika road project would improve the economy of the area.
He promised that development projects would be extended to all local government areas of the state, adding that no community would be neglected by his administration.
At Nchia, the Commissioner for Health, Mr Theophilus Odagme, assured the governor that the reconstruction of the hospital would be completed in record time.
The Commissioner for Works, Mr Bathuel Iheanyichukwu, said that internal roads in Okrika being constructed are 11.5 kilometres long. (NAN)
