2 Min Read

Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers, will watch and cheer Rivers United FC to victory in a NPFL match against Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) in Port Harcourt on Sunday, July 17.
This is contained in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Saturday by Sammy Wejinya, Media Officer of Rivers United.

The statement said Wike would be at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt where the game would be played, to cheer United to victory against visiting 3SC.

It said that it would be the first time this season for Wike to watch Rivers United live in a NPFL game.
“Wike’s love for sport and football made him to watch live match at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium to cheer Nigeria’s U23 team to a 2-1 win over Congo in an Olympic qualifier in 2015.
“It is his love for sports that has made Super Eagles of Nigeria to virtually adopt Port Harcourt as their new home.

“This is exemplified by the friendly game Niger Republic on September 8, 2015 and a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Swaziland on November 17, 2015,” the statement said.
The statement said that recently, Wike also showed great support for football as the Joseph Yobo Testimonial held in Port Harcourt.

“Rivers State playing host to the national and international community for the umpteenth time with distinction,” the statement added. (NAN)
