Gov Wike advises new commissioners on commitment to duty

2 Min Read

Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers has advised the newly sworn-in commissioners to demonstrate commitment to duty and be loyal at all times.

Wike gave the advice on Wednesday at the swearing-in of 14 commissioners and a Permanent Secretary in Port Harcourt.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Wike had in July dissolved his cabinet members.

“We demand 100 per cent loyalty in the course of your duty to achieve success in our services to people,’’ he said.

Wike also urged the commissioners and permanent secretary to see their jobs as an opportunity to serve the people and not to enrich themselves.

He also urged them to exhibit responsible character, while carrying out their duties, saying that they should desist from unguarded utterances at all times.

“Any of you can be assigned a portfolio to work in any ministry.

“I want to plead with you to do your work well; don’t go and fight with the permanent secretaries, do the work you are assigned to do,’’ the governor advised.

According to him, anyone found wanting will be dropped from the cabinet.

NAN reports that those sworn in include Mr Emma Okah, Mr Charles Nworgu, Chief Walter Ibibia, Dr Tamunosisi Gogo-Jaja, Mrs Ukuel Oyaghiri, Mr Isaac Kamalu and Mr Damiete Herbert-Miller.

Others were Boma Iyaye, Emeka Onowu, Prof. Princewill Chike, Tasie Nwobueze, Sylvanus Nwankwo, Prof. Kaniye Ebeku and Rodaford LongJohn.

NAN reports that Mrs Ibiwari Ogolo was sworn in as the permanent secretary.
