Gov. Mimiko Suffers Setback, Gets 7-day Ultimatum

2 Min Read

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has made fresh embezzlement accusations against the state governor, Olusegun Mimiko.

The APC accused him of using N15b from the federation account accrued to the State to fund his second term re-election bid in November 2012.

The party further claimed that former President Goodluck Jonathan personally ordered the discharge of the funds to Mimiko.

Omo’ba Abayomi Adesanya, APC Publicity Secretary for Ondo State, disclosed this on Monday evening in a statement issued in Akure.

He also threatened to write the anti-corruption agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), if Mr. Mimiko failed to explain in seven days.

“We have it on good authority that, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, the Executive Governor of Ondo State, collected the sum of fifteen billion Naira (N15b) from the Federation Account on the 15th day of November 2012, which he personally signed for.

“The action of the governor is totally against due process. It was deliberately orchestrated to siphon public funds, which has gone into private pockets with no records of it in the State,” Mr. Adesanya said.

“Governor Mimiko received the funds in November 2012 through the bank accounts of his cronies through the Ministry of Finance from the Central Bank of Nigeria,” Mr. Adesanya added.

“We hereby give the governor a seven-day ultimatum to address the people of the State on the diverted N15bn and refund the money to the treasury of Ondo State forthwith.

“If he fails to meet these conditions within seven days, we will have no option than to write petitions to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to help the suffering people of Ondo State to recover the N15bn from the pockets of Governor Olusegun Mimiko and his friends,” Mr Adesanya concluded.
