Gov. Jibrilla launches N3.2bn Kiri-Shelleng road project

2 Min Read

Gov. Muhammadu Jibrilla of Adamawa on Saturday launched the construction of 37 kilometres Kiri-Shelleng road project.

Speaking at the launching in Kiri village, Gov. Jibrilla said that the occasion was historic in view of the various failed attempts made by past administrations to construct the important road.

“It is on record that the first attempt at constructing a road to Shelleng when it was under Guyuk Local Government Area in 1996 actually started during the civilian administration of Gov. Abubakar Barde.

“Indeed, Gen. Abdullahi Shelleng also made attempted, Gov Boni Haruna also made attempt without success as well as Gov. Murtala Nyako.

“The drama of the construction of this important road resulted in the accusation that the construction of Kiri-Shelleng road is nothing but a conduit pipe to siphoning of government’s resources,” Jibrilla said.

He called for support and cooperation of the people, adding that his administration in spite of its lean purse would not give excuses but struggle to deliver on its campaign promises within the limited resources.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Works, Mrs Lilian Stephen, said the contract was awarded to Triacta Nigeria at the cost of N3.2 billion to be completed in two years due to the difficult terrain.

Stephen urged the people in the area to support and cooperate with the contracting firm to enable it complete the project in good time.

She cautioned against dumping of waste into drains and water ways to avoid flooding.

In his remarks, the Managing Director of the company, Mr Elie Farhat, said the company was committed to deliver the project and called for support and cooperation of the government and the people. (NAN)
