Gov. Fayose recruits 43 site inspectors to tackle erection of illegal structures

2 Min Read

Gov. Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti on Monday announced the recruitment of 43 site inspectors to tackle erection of illegal structures in all parts of the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria, (NAN) reports that the governor said at their inauguration in Ado-Ekiti that the move was part of efforts to rid the State of illegal structures and their attendant problems.

Giving a breakdown, he said, the new appointees were made up of 40 inspectors and three supervisors.

He said their main job was to monitor both physical and urban development tempo in the State, with the aim of bringing sanity into the system.

The State’s Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Mr Taelolu Otitoju, represented the governor at the inauguration and induction course organised for the newly recruited officers in Ado Ekiti.

The governor explained that the inspectors are currently on probation, adding that their primary responsibilities would include prevention of further erection of illegal structures as well as verifying approved building plans and serving official notices where necessary.

He said that only about one percent of structures in Ado Ekiti, the State capital, hitherto had approved building plans.

The governor assured that the development would not only correct the anomaly as well as engender safe and habitable environment, but also improve the State’s internally generated revenue (IGR).

Fayose charged the 43 inspectors to justify the confidence reposed in them, stressing the need for their absolute commitment to duty in order to achieve the desired result.

He said that the state’s  capital had been divided into eight zones for effective monitoring of the exercise (NAN)
