Gov. Al-Makura directs auditors to probe financial transactions of LGs

2 Min Read

Gov. Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State has directed Auditors of Local Government Areas (LGAs) to probe illegal transactions in their various areas to ensure prudence and accountability.

The governor gave the directive on Thursday in Lafia while hosting the auditors of education authority of the 13 councils and 18 Development Areas of the state.

According to him, “the desire of the government to end the payment of workers’ salaries in percentage cannot be realised if the auditors do not do their work’’.

The governor promised to provide an enabling environment for auditors to discharge their duties in line with global best practice without fear or favour.

“You have the right to query my directives, transactions and approval if it did not conform to the financial ethnics or due process.

“If you have the right to query my transaction that is not done properly, you can as well probe any government official who carries a transaction that is not done properly,’’ Al-Makura said.

He said that if auditors were up and doing in the discharge of their duties, workers in the state would be paid when due.

He also urged auditors in all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to be proactive by ensuring that all approvals met the standard to block leakages.

He assured workers, both at the state and council levels, that before he leaves office in 2019, all outstanding salaries would be paid in full.

He, therefore, directed that they should submit the reports of their findings in the various areas directly to his office.

Responding on behalf of others, Mr Joseph Ochebe expressed gratitude to the governor for giving them opportunity to interact with him and promised to do their job without fear or favour. (NAN)
