Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara has urged financial institutions in the country to strengthen their corporate social responsibility for the growth and development of the country.
Ahmed, according to a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Abdulwahab Oba, on Sunday made the call while receiving Mr Yemi Adeola, the Chief Executive Officer of Sterling Bank Plc in Ilorin.
The governor said that the bank’s corporate social responsibility initiative was very essential in supporting the government and the society in general.
He said that environmental issues were also critical for the development and attributed poor public health system to low productivity in Nigeria.
Ahmed, while appreciating the bank for buying into the state’s Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF), said that such support would give impetus to government to do more for the people of the state.
He also sought for the support of the developmental partners in providing critical infrastructure across the state.
Earlier, Adeola told the governor that the bank would donate one thousand sweepers’ uniforms to support the state government’s clean and green programme.
He identified Ilorin as one of the cleanest states in Nigeria, saying “a healthy environment breeds healthy economy’’. (NAN)
