Chairman of Google, Eric Schmidt was in Nigeria and Kenya last week. Schmidt made a courtesy call to Lagos State Governor, Governor Babatunde Fashola accompanied by Google Ideas Director, Mr. Jared Cohen and Country Manager, Google Nigeria, Mrs. Juliet Ehimuan Chiazor amongst others to discuss theuse of information and communications technology to drive growth in various sectors of the Nigerian economy.
Governor Fashola was accompanied by member’s of his cabinet including The Lagos State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Dr Obafemi Hamzat as well as The Commissioner for Science and Technology Mr Adebiyi Mabadeje.
Google’s Chairman also paid a visit to the mainframe studio of renowned Nigerian filmmaker, Tunde Kelani where they both discussed the challenges facing Nigeria’s creative industries.
Google’s Chairman was also in Nairobi, Kenya were amongst others he visited the well known Kenyan innovation hub, the iHub where he met with Kenyan technology entrepreneurs.
He also visited Strathmore University where amongst others, he talked about the importance of education to enable young people solve the world’s most challenging problems.
