Godwin Emefiele must beware of fair weather friends – Shehu Sani

2 Min Read
Shehu Sani

Senator for Kaduna Central in the 8th Senate, Shehu Sani has said that a valuable lesson must be learnt from the travails of the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.

He said that many people swarmed around Emefiele during his bid for the presidency, but deserted him during his current face-off with the Department of State Services (DSS).

Sani described such people as “fair-weather friends” who must be avoided.

Emefiele has been out of Nigeria for weeks following a reported plot by the DSS to arrest him over alleged terrorism financing.

On Sunday, a human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Femi Falana, said the CBN governor has not returned to the country.

This is just as a former Minister of Defence, Chief Adetokunbo Kayode and five other SANs, petitioned the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami SAN, condemning the plot to ‘frame’ Emefiele.

In a Monday tweet, Sani said that none of Emefiele’s so-called friends who praised him effusively during the presidential run have publicly defended him amid his current travails.

The public affairs commentator wrote, “When the CBN Governor was in office, and wanted to contest the Presidency, many flocked to sing his praises.

“Now he is in trouble, his so called friends don’t have the courage to openly defend him or stand by him. A lesson to learn from fair weather relationships,”
