Brazilians watched in shock as their team was humiliated by Germany in the 2014 World Cup semi-final football match which took place at the Estádio Mineirão in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
The Estádio Mineirao stadium management has announced that the goal net used on that day would be cut into 8,150 pieces and each piece would be sold for at least €71 to raise funds for charity.
The set price for each piece sold at €71 is used to commemorate the scoreline (Germany 7-1 Brazil).
The net that conceded the most goals will be cut while the other would be left at Belo Horizonte.
On the fund raising project, the stadium’s director and spokesman, Samuel Lloyd in a statement said: “The idea is to transform this traumatic incident that everyone would prefer to forget into something positive.”
If the 8150 pieces or segments of the goal net is sold, they would raise €578,650 in total.
The football giants Brazil had remained unbeaten during the tournament until they were hammered by the Germans.
Germany scored 4 goals within six minutes and had 5 goals at half time. Two goals were netted in the second half and the Brazilian scored a consolation goal at the last minute. The man of the match was awarded to Germany’s Toni Kroos.
