The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has in totality forgiven the duo of Super Eagles captain, Vincent Enyeama and Lazio of Italy midfielder, Ogeyi Onazi and would not be asked to pay any fine again for the offense.
Enyeama had ran into troubled waters with NFF when he openly criticised the choice of Kaduna as the venue for the Super Eagles Nations cup qualifiers with Chad while Onazi was fined for receiving a red card during the said match.
The Chairman of the NFF’s Disciplinary Committee who is also the Chairman of legal Committee of the Federation, Barrister Chris Green said that since NFF had kept silent over the matter means that they have agreed to rest the case.
“That the NFF did not say anything again about the offence committed by Enyeama means that he has been forgiven and now free to play for the Super Eagles. Enyeama’s case has been looked into and he has been pardoned and can go ahead to lead the Eagles in the next match of the 2017 AFCON”, Green disclosed.
He particularly stressed that members of the technical committee pleaded on behalf of Onazi, “Some of us also pleaded on behalf of Onazi for the $5,000 fine to be removed off the Italy based midfielder. Ogenyi Onazi has also been pardoned and cleared to play for the Eagles. So Onazi has also been pardoned and is free to play for the Eagles”, Green also disclosed.
Enyeama had earlier drawn the battle line as he refused to appear before the NFF committee who had invited him to appear before them.
The goalkeeper had expressed his reservation over the choice of Kaduna as the venue of the last Nations cup qualifying match against Chad.
Though, Enyeama later apologized for the comment but that did not stop the NFF big wigs from commencing a disciplinary proceeding on him.
And after the meeting, Chairman of the committee, Barrister Chris Green said they have submitted their report on him to the federation though he agreed that the matter would be handled internally without any prejudice.
Green observed that the success of the senior national team should be a collective responsibility as the body will not leave any stone upturned towards meeting its set target.
He hinted that the federation will not condone any act of indiscipline from any quarter in its quest to sanitize the system.
“We invited Enyeama and he is holidaying somewhere and he did not honour the invitation we have sent our report to the executive board on his issue,” He said.
