The Beacon of Information Communication Technology (BoICT) has successfully organised its 2013 edition of recognising the vision and enterprise of individuals and companies that have contributed to the growth of the ICT industry in Nigeria.
In this years’ event, held at Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, Globacom succeeded in outshining others by clinching the bulk of awards for its outstanding performance in the telecoms industry.
Glo won the Telecoms Company of the Year, Best GSM Company of the Year, Most Innovative Mobile Player of the Year and Broadband Company of the Year.
The Editor-in-Chief and Chief Executive Officer of CommunicationsWeek, explained that the Company of the Year award was given to Glo in recognition of its “pursuit of customer satisfaction with a passion that inspires hope and unparalleled achievements.”
Regarding the Broadband Company of the Year award, he said Glo has been able to provide sufficient bandwidth for economic prosperity through Glo 1.
Similarly, the Best GSM Company of the Year and Most Innovative Mobile Player of the Year were for Glo’s “ability to continuously excite its subscribers and be a leader in innovation as well as for its ability to reinvent the wheel,” he explained.
The efforts of BoICT for setting up these innovative events was commended by the Special Guest of Honour of this year’s event, in the person of Mr. Gbenga Adebayo, who is the Chairman of the Association of Licensed Telecommunication Operators (ALTON).
In the Banking sector, the awards for E-Banking Services Provider of the Year, and Mobile Money Operator of the Year were won by Zenith Bank and GT Bank respectively.
Vodacom Business won Enterprise Solutions Provider of the Year and the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) was awarded as the Government Agency of the Year.
On the individual level, the ICT man of the Year was given to The Director General of NBC, Yomi Bolarinwa, while the former Executive Vice Chairman of Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Mr. Ernest Ndukwe, was honoured into the BoICT hall of Fame.
The winners were determined through a poll conducted by the organisers, CommunicationWeek Media, readers of the magazine and telecom industry stakeholders were allowed to cast their votes by email or through voting on a portal created for the purpose on the company’s website.
