The Glo CAF Awards has come and gone, and one of the biggest upsets at the awards was when Ivorian midfielder, Yaya Toure failed to win the 2015 CAF African Player of the Year award.
The honour was bestowed on Gabonese striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Toure was furious, stating later that it was a “shame on Africa” that he failed to win it.
But the Manchester City mercurial midfielder’s brother, Kolo Toure, who plays for Liverpool has come out to defend his brother’s outburst.
He said to The Guardian: “Yaya is a good player but some of the big players like Eric Cantona are very strong-willed. I think that is how he is. He is a winner and, when he doesn’t win everything, goes a little bit crazy.
“For me he deserved that award. He was the only African player voted in the top four or five players in the world but he doesn’t win African Player of the Year. We also won the Africa Cup of Nations and that is why he was expecting to win.
“I will always be behind my brother but this is the game, sometimes you lose and sometimes you win. Yaya’s reaction is because he is a winner. I know deep inside he is a nice guy.
“I saw so many comments but I think the football world pushes him to do things that are not really him. He says some things that he doesn’t need to say.”
