A seven-year-old girl, Morire Olagoke, has been found dead inside a car belonging to a co-tenant in the Olujoda area of Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

The incident which occurred on Thursday reportedly threw the whole area into mourning.

The victim was said to be playing inside her parents’ apartment when she went out with her twin sister, Mokore to buy biscuits.

Morire was said to have gone missing around 1:15pm, when her twin sister went back inside the apartment to get the money she forgot inside.

Mokore then raised the alarm to attract neighbours and a search for Morire commenced.

However, she was not found until around 8:00pm when her dead body was found inside the car parked inside the compound.

Her mother, Kehinde Ajayi said the matter was reported at the Ologede Police Division where they were told to wait for 24 hours before any action could be taken.

She said when Morire’s body was eventually discovered inside the vehicle around 8pm, her body had peeled off.

The Ekiti State Police Public Relations Officer, Abutu Sunday confirmed the incident.

“It was true that a teenager was declared missing and the parents reported the incident in our division at Ologede. So, all efforts to recover the little girl turned out unsuccessful until 8 pm. She was found lifeless in one of the cars parked within their compound,” he said.

The police spokesman added that the little girl’s remains had been deposited in the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital’s morgue in Ado-Ekiti, while a postmortem would be conducted to determine the cause of death.
