‘Gbenga Daniel Belongs To Labour Party’ – PDP Disowns Former Governor

2 Min Read

The South West chapter of the ruling PDP has disassociated itself from the activities of the former Governor of Ogun state, Olugbenga Daniel. The party members refereed to Gbenga Daniel as the “chief promoter” of Labour Party in the state and wondered how media reports could have penciled him as a PDP leader in the state.

South-West PDP in a statement by its Zonal Publicity Secretary, Waheed Lawal debunked reports that Daniel led party members to Sagamu in order to meet President Jonathan as he launched reconstruction activities on the Lagos Ibadan expressway.

The statement clarified, saying, “They were supported by the chairmen of the PDP in the six states of the South-West. It was unthinkable that Daniel whose is the chief promoter of the Labour Party in Ogun State could have led PDP members to the event when there were notable leaders of the party who mobilised members from different states of the zone. For instance, in Ogun State alone, over 40 buses, fully loaded with PDP members came from the 20 local government areas.

“Furthermore, it stands logic on its head that Daniel whose handful of supporters carried banners with the inscription ‘OGD Political Family’ side-by-side with that of the Labour Party could be said to have led PDP members to an event? Is it not more plausible that he led LP members to the event?”

The party therefore urged the media to be wary of “mischief makers and political rabble-rousers whose stock-in-trade is to take glory for what they did not do.”
