Major General Wiwa, the former Director of Military Intelligence and younger brother to the late Ogoni Activist, Ken Saro-Wiwa has been arrested by the Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
The arrest made by the EFCC was in pursuance of the ongoing fight against corruption particularly in the investigation of the $2.1 billion arms fund by the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki.
General Wiwa was until his arrest the Deputy Commandant at the Armed Forces Resettlement Centre, Oshodi and is being held at one of the major military barracks in Abuja.
His arrest, sources confirm, might have been as a result of the sensitive position he held as the Principal Staff Officer at the office of the National Security Adviser when Col. Sambo Dasuki was NSA.
In a statement signed by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, he said; “The Nigerian Army wishes to inform the public that 12 Army officers have been sent to the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), for investigation. This comprised of three serving Major Generals, and one retired, three Brigadier Generals, four Colonels and one Lieutenant Colonel.”
