A member of the National Assembly, Sen. Barnabas Gemade, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for appointing Benue indigenes into positions at the national level.
The lawmaker, who represents Benue North East Senatorial District at the Senate, gave the commendation in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.
He particularly commended the president for appointing Mr Tor Uja as Director-General, Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission (NCPC) and Maj.-Gen. India Garba as Chairman, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).
He, however, urged the president to consider new appointments for Tiv people in the state, saying that they voted “massively for the ruling APC in the last general election’’.
Gemade lauded the Federal Government for ensuring development and security of lives and properties in the country, adding, however, that more measures should be taken to further combat insecurity in the country.
“I plead with the president to direct the security forces fighting terrorists, cattle rustlers and armed herdsmen to double their efforts.
“I also plead with him to tackle armed herdsmen killing innocent people in Benue and other parts of the country,’’ he said.
The lawmaker assured Buhari of continued support of Benue people to his fight against corruption and insurgency in the country. (NAN)
