Former President Goodluck Jonathan who has been traveling in the United States cancelled a keynote speech he was slated to give at the Africa Peace Awards Dinner organized by the Center for African Peace and Conflict Resolution at the California State University, Sacramento.
The measure was taken so as to avoid embarrassment by protests planned against him.
Goodluck Jonathan through his former Special Assistant on New Media, Reno Omokri, said that he had taken ill and had been hospitalized
According to Saharareporters though, it seems he’s in excellent health but is keen to avoid protests against him planned by gay rights activists.
The western world has been critical of Nigeria’s anti-gay laws which prescribes imprisonment for offenders and public supporters. It was also Jonathan who signed this into law.
Commenting on the situation Ernest Uwazie, director of the Center for African Peace and Conflict Resolution said: “He (Reno Omokri) will be available to meet with anybody like the LGBT group that has expressed interest in meeting with him, before the awards dinner. We’re also looking at the possibility of some Facetime technology with Goodluck Jonathan at the hospital where he is.”
