Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje has said that APC presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has agreed to pick a Muslim running mate.
He disclosed this during a Friday prayer session with some Islamic clerics ahead of the Sallah celebrations.
“We advised him to pick a Muslim deputy. He has agreed.
“A Muslim-Muslim ticket is a reality. It is not something new in Nigeria,” Ganduje said.
He urged people to continue to pray for the APC presidential flagbearer.
The race for Tinubu’s running mate has been a hotly-debated topic.
On June 17, a former Welfare Secretary of APC, Kabiru Masari was nominated as the running mate to Tinubu in ‘placeholder’ capacity.
A substantive running mate is expected to be named as the final deadline for the submission of candidates’ names inches closer.
While many pundits say Tinubu, who is a Yoruba Muslim, could choose a Northern Muslim running mate, the Christian Association or Nigeria (CAN) warned candidates to respect Nigeria’s religious diversity and not choose running mates of the same religion.
