Former Chairman of Airtel Nigeria, Deacon Gamaliel Offoritsenere Onosode is dead, his son Ese Onosode announced in a statement on Tuesday.
He died aged 82 on Tuesday morning at Goldcross Hospital, Ikoyi, Lagos after battling with a protracted illness.
A graduate of the then University College, Ibadan now University of Ibadan, where he later became Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of its Governing Council, Deacon Onosode was a seasoned administrator, technocrat, public servant, religious leader and a former presidential candidate of the All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP).
He was a recipient of honorary doctorate degrees from the Obafemi Awolowo University, University of Benin and Rivers State University of Science and Technology.
He was also a former Chairman of Dunlop Nigeria and Cadbury Nigeria, Council of the Association of Pension Funds of Nigeria, as well as Presidential Adviser on Budget Affairs and Director of Budget.
He was a fellow of the Economic Development Institute of the World Bank, Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, Nigeria Institute of Management among others.
He was said to have been flown into the country from London on Monday.
