Nigerian music star, Damini Ogulu, better known as Burna Boy, has drawn widespread criticism after leaving the stage abruptly during his performance at the #GreaterLagosCountdown2025 event held on Tuesday.
The incident occurred when a fan climbed onto the stage, prompting security personnel to swiftly intervene and remove the individual. Burna Boy, who had paused his performance during the commotion, unexpectedly walked off the stage without addressing the audience.
A video of the incident, which surfaced online on Wednesday, has fueled heated discussions among fans and social media users. Many expressed their disappointment, accusing the Grammy-winning artist of arrogance and unprofessionalism.
One X user, Ibrahim Malcolm, tweeted, “Just pride and arrogance, somewhat disrespect to the very audience he’s performing for.” Another user, Mezia Abia, added, “If not pride, what is it? Someone paid you for a show, and you delivered halfway because a fan touched you.”
Despite the backlash, some fans defended Burna Boy, pointing out that the artist had previously warned against fans jumping on stage during his performances. Chukwudi Emmanuel, a social media user, commented, “Why people no dey hear word? He’s said it severally—don’t jump on stage when he’s performing.”
Burna Boy has yet to release an official statement addressing the controversy, leaving fans divided over the incident.
The #GreaterLagosCountdown2025 event featured several top Nigerian artists, including Wizkid and Tiwa Savage, who contributed to what many described as a memorable celebration. However, Burna Boy’s abrupt departure has overshadowed the event.
