The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) says it has revoked the broadcast licenses of Silverbird TV, Rhythm FM, African Independent Television (AIT), Raypower FM, and others for indebtedness to the commission.
In a statement obtained by The Herald, the NBC said the indebted licensees were in May 2022 given a two-week ultimatum to renew their licences.
The commission disclosed that three months after the directive was issued, some of the licensees failed to pay up their outstanding debts.
The NBC said the action of the defaulting licensees contravened NBC Act CAP N11, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
The NBC gave the defaulting licensees 24 hours to shut down their operations or risk compliance action from the commission aided by security agencies.
