Some senators led by senators Rabi’u Kwankwaso (Kano-Central) and Dino Melaye (Kogi-West) have defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to other political parties, mainly the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The senators announced their decision at plenary on Tuesday morning.
Senate President Bukola Saraki, whose convoy was blocked by a detachment of policemen from leaving his Maitama, Abuja home earlier today, presided over plenary.

Saraki read a letter from 13 of the senators informing the senate of their decision.

Another senator, Abdul-Azeez Murtala-Nyako (Adamawa) who had earlier dumped the APC for the African Democratic Congress also had his defection formalised.
