The ongoing fuel scarcity in the country is set to get worse as the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) gets set to embark on strike on Monday.
PENGASSAN is embarking on the strike following the failure of the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr Ibe Kachikwu to broker peace between the group and Neconde Energy Limited.
Neconde Energy had reportedly sacked some senior workers in the industry, an action PENGASSAN told it to reverse within 72 hours or face strike action.
The Minister had intervened to end the crisis in a meeting in Abuja during the week. The intervention reportedly failed, prompting the group to schedule the strike action for Monday.
PENGASSAN’s Public Relation Office, Fortune Obi said in a statement, “Following the failure of the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Dr Ibe Kachikwu, to settle the rift between this body (PENGASSAN) and Neconde, the management of PENGASSAN has agreed to start the strike on Monday night (December 18th, 2017).
“Prior to the strike, PENGASSAN will hold an emergency Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting on Monday morning, which will be followed with announcement of strike on the night of Monday.’’
