Senator Ben Murray-Bruce (PDP – Bayelsa East) has dug up an old tweet of Special Assistant on New Media to the President, Tolu Ogunlesi condemning former President Goodluck Jonathan for his silence on fuel scarcity in the country.
In the 2012 tweet, Ogunlesi had chided Jonathan for ignoring the fuel scarcity crisis in the country while condemning Boko Haram attacks.
Bruce, in a caption attached to the screenshot tweet by Ogunlesi, said, “Only a full liberalisation of the downstream sector of the oil industry will end episodic fuel scarcity issues that heighten during the Yuletide. Our long suffering people are best served with private sector refineries that refine in Nigeria thereby creating jobs and opportunity.”
President Muhammadu Buhari has yet to address the fuel scarcity crisis despite increasing calls for him to do so, especially as he is the substantive Petroleum Minister in the country.
In a Christmas message to Nigerians released on Saturday, the president failed to mention the subject.
