FRSC urges motorists to gauge tyres before journey

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has advised motorists to ensure that vulcanisers gauged their vehicle tyres thoroughly before undertaking long journey to avoid road accident.

Mr Adei Abu, the FRSC Deputy Corps Marshal, gave the advice on Tuesday in Katsina during a sensitisation campaign on tyre safety.

‘’We want to draw the attention of motorists on the need to maintain their vehicle tyres.

‘’We want to draw the attention of motorists to ensure that vulcanisers carry out thorough gauging of their vehicles before undertaking long journey.

‘’You should also monitor vulcanisers well while installing or mending punctured tyres in order to ensure that the right things are done to avoid disaster while in motion.

‘’It is also the duty of every driver to carry out vehicle audit and look at the manufacturing date of each tyres,’’ he said.

Abu disclosed that in 2015 722 accidents were recorded in the country as a result of tyre burst.

He further advised motorists to check the date of manufacture before buying a new tyre.

In his remarks, the FRSC Sector Commander in the state, Alhaji Abdu Bagadawa, said that the state recorded 107 accidents between January and April.

Bagadawa said that 14 persons died as a result of tyre burst during the period.

He urged motorists to stop patronising used tyres, avoid overtaking, speeding, making phone calls while driving as well as putting people inside vehicle boot to avoid road accidents.
