FRSC tightens plans to achieve accident free yuletide in Anambra

Mr Sunday Ajayi, Anambra Command, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said that the command had intensified awareness campaigns to achieve accident free, come 2018 yuletide.

Ajayi, who said this in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka, added that the command would take the campaign to Churches, Schools, Mosques and motor parks to ensure maximum result.

He said that the corps would also enlighten motorists and other road users, more, on the need to obey traffic rules and regulations to save lives.

“We are committed to saving lives of motorists, we are taking serious measures to fix in our arrangements for safety celebrations, all we ask is for the motorists to obey the rules’’ Ajayi appealed.

He said that more awareness campaign would be done during ember months because that was the season when more avoidable crashes were normally recorded.

“We are going to drum to the people the importance of keeping to road and traffic signs while on the wheels so that they can drive with caution.”

Ajayi said that FRSC would collaborate with other relevant agencies in the state such as the Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra, OCHA Brigade, Anambra State Traffic Management Agency, ATMA.

He said the collaboration of these sister agencies would assist the corps in passing the message down to all the road users to reduce accidents on the highways.

He advised motorists to ensure that their vehicles were in good condition before plying the highways, adding that they should desist from dangerous over taking, speeding and over loading among others.

Ajayi disclosed that the agency would also embark on serious radio and television campaign, on the need for motorists to adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations.

He urged the public to see road safety measures as a collective responsibility. (NAN)
