FRSC seeks partnership with NSCIA on road safety

2 Min Read

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) said it would collaborate with the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) to ensure safer roads in the country.

The Corps Marshal of the commission, Mr Boboye Oyeyemi, said this in Benin on Saturday during the General Assembly of NSCIA.

He said that the collaboration could be in road safety advocacy, education and enlightenment of followers of Islam.

Oyeyemi explained that the need for partnership with religious bodies on road safety became imperative because leadership of such bodies had overwhelming influence on their followers.

He said that FRSC was also willing to partner traditional rulers in same vein.

The commission’s boss commended the President General of NSCIA, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, for championing advocacy for safer roads in the country.

“We want people to be educated on the need to obey traffic rules and regulations and to have tolerance for other road users.

“We will commence the enforcement of the use of speed limiting device from Oct. 1, this year.

“We are also advocating the use of crash helmet and disuse of expired tyres.

“We are appealing to the council to assist us to educate its followers on these areas and other road safety issues,” he said. (NAN)
