Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC) has presented items to victims of roads crashes as part of activities to mark 2016 Accident Victims Remembrance Day in Gombe.
Presenting the items on Saturday at Gombe Specialist Hospital, Mrs Ekaette Mendie, Chairperson Wives of FRSC officers, said this was part of their effort to identify with accident victims yearly.
Mendie, who was represented by Mrs Sera Dadi, said the items presented included sugar, Milk, Milo, Omo and other items that can be use in the hospital.
“We are here to visit the victims of accidents, to show them we are all together and we are feeling their pains despite the fact our husbands are doing their best in sensitizing them.”
She said that the association was also praying for them to complement the efforts of their spouses in ensuring a safer road for all Nigerians.
Mendie called on the drivers and other road users to obey traffic rules and regulation so as to protect themselves from being victims of road crashes.
“If drivers can find time to come and see what we have seen today I am sure a lot of them will love to drive carefully, because most of the crashes on the roads are caused by human factors.
“We are calling on them to be more careful while driving by obeying the traffic rules and arrive at their destinations safely,” she said.
She called on passengers to be active participants in the fight at reducing road accident because the drivers are not the only one’s to be involved when the crash happens.
Alhaji salisu Abubakar, Deputy In-charge of Emergency Unit of the hospital, commended the effort of the FRSC for their humanitarian service to victims of road accidents.
“On behalf of the management, I thanked you and appreciates your effort for coming and to see things for yourselves in the hospital.
“The patients in the two wards you visited are also grateful for your kind gesture,” he said.
Malam Abubakar Usman, a patient, told NAN that he was involved in an accident three days ago as a result of over speeding by the driver.
He called on passengers to always caution drivers to avoid accidents, adding that the accident he was involved in was due to lack of cautioning the driver. (NAN)
