The Sector Commander, Mr Hafiz Muhammad who monitored the the deployment of the drones in Kaduna on Thursday, said the deployment of the devices began on Wednesday.

Hafiz said the drones would monitor the Kaduna-Abuja and Zaria-Kaduna highways as well Kawo in Kaduna metropolis.

He said that a lot of travellers were expected within the axis because of Sallah festivities and the deployment of the drones was imperative to ensure sanity and safety on the roads.

“The deployment is part of our plan to ensure there is smooth traffic flow through Kaduna, being a confluence toward North-West .

“Kawo has become the epicenter of traffic in Kaduna, especially with the demolition of the bridge and ongoing reconstruction of another one.

“This has inadvertently narrowed the road; so there is a lot of traffic and diversion.

”We have to deploy a lot of personnel from FRSC,  KASTLEA, army, airforce, police and NSCDC and at the same time, use technology to manage the traffic,” he said.

According to him, the drones can cover up to 12 kilometre distance horizontally and vertically.

“With the drones we can monitor what is happening 12 kilometers ahead on the road for proactive measures immediately.

”Deployment of the drones is effective in traffic management.

“The 2020 Eid-el-Kabir patrol signifies the corps’ intention within its powers to ensure reduction of road crashes, injury and death, in addition to curbing the possible spread of COVID-19 during the festive season,” he added.

Hafiz called on motorist to avoid over speeding, over loading and drunk driving and observe all the protocols of Covid 19.

The sector commander further called on passengers not to allow drivers to over load their vehicles or over speed, for their own safety.

He also disclosed that the mobile court at Kakau on Kaduna-Abuja highway, was set up on Wednesday and 32 persons had already been convicted for traffic offences.
