FRSC issues certificate of standard to 3 commercial transport companies in Taraba

2 Min Read

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has called on ministries, agencies, schools and private organizations with three or more vehicles to register with the corps and be certified for the good of all road users.

Mr Godwin Omiko, Sector Commander of FRSC in Taraba, made the call in Jalingo on Saturday while issuing Certificates of Standard to three out of the 12 commercial road transport companies operating in the State.

Omiko explained that the move was in line with the new ‘Road Transport Safety Standardization Scheme’ of the corps to ensure safety of lives on the country’s roads.

Omiko noted that the three transport companies – Taraba State Transport Corporation (TSTC), the Peoples Choice and Yaduye were chosen because they met the set requirements.

“We want road transport companies to ensure that they have safety managers, speed limiters on their vehicles and their drivers re-trained quarterly.

“They must also respect passengers and guard against overloading so as to enhance safety of lives on the nation’s roads”, he said.

He said the certificates would expire on Dec. 31, 2016 and would be re-issued by the corps based on current performance of the companies.

Omiko added that in the long run, road transport companies that refused to do the free registration would be blacklisted by the corps.

Mr Ahmed Ishaku, the Managing Director of TSTC, commended FRSC for moving to curb the road accidents in the country.

Ishaku said TSTC, in collaboration with other stakeholders in the transport sector, would work hard to keep the country’s roads safe from accidents.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that TSTC was issued with Class A, Group A certificate due to high performance while the Peoples Choice and Yaduye were classified in Group B by the corps. (NAN)
