FRSC has no mandate to train drivers in the country – NITT

2 Min Read

The Chairman, Governing Council of the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), Zaria, Kaduna State, Olorogun John Onojeharho, said it is not the mandate of the Federal Road Safety Corps to train drivers in the country.

Mr Olorogun John, who spoke to journalists at the end of a three-day retreat programme organised for the management and staff of the institute, listed the corps among those he described as “quacks” in the training of drivers in the country.

The chairman said activities of quacks in the transport and logistic business hampered the activities of the institute.

According to him, the mandate to train drivers to lay with the NITT and not the FRSC and others parading themselves as experts in the training of drivers.

He said, “The major challenge is the issue of quackery. There are a lot of quacks who are coming in to offer training and manpower development in the areas of transportation and logistics and they are not actually standardised and capable of offering those services”.

“There are institutions that are not authorised to train people in this sector. I don’t want to say it’s a Nigerian thing but it is partly so”.

“There are people who came for partnership with NITT and are properly entered into an MoU and we say they should be partnered”.

“We also encourage them to have a bit of knowledge, but before you know it, they break away and start offering training and leave their core functions.”
