The Kaduna Zonal Office of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), on Wednesday commenced a six weeks special intervention patrol on selected accident prone routes and highways in the zone.

Assistant Corps Marshal Ayobami Omiyale, the Zonal Commanding Officer, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in Kaduna that the patrol which began Jan. 30, would end on March 21, 2019.

He explained that the first phase of the patrol would cover Zaria – Funtua, Zaria -Tashan Yari and Zaria to Birnin Yero roads, as well as Kaduna – Birnin Yero, Birnin Yero – Panbeguwa and Panbeguwa – Saminaka roads.

According to him, the patrol tagged, “Gyara Kayanka”, meaning “care for yourself”, was specifically organized to curb the rate of accidents along the highways.

“We will enlighten motorists and other road users on road safety regulations for safe driving to avert accident and save lives. We will equally enforce traffic regulation to ensure compliance.

“We will have mobile courts during the patrol to prosecute offenders, with a view to instill driving discipline and sanity on highways, ” he said.

The zonal commander called on motorists to cooperate with the FRSC officials on duty to achieve a smooth exercise.

Omiyale also called on drivers to avoid dangerous overtaking or blocking space for drivers struggling to return to their lane after a failed overtaking attempt.

He urged all road users to avoid over speeding, overloading, dangerous driving, and always obey all traffic rules.

“This will ensure safe driving to desired destinations,” he added. (NAN)
