Friendly Skies: President Jonathan, Amaechi share helicopter ride in bid to end rift

2 Min Read
Rotimi Amaechi and former president, Goodluck Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan and the Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi shared a helicopter ride to the First Lady’s mother’s burial in Okrika town yesterday. Also joining them along for the ride was the Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson.

Amaechi and Dickson arrived earlier and awaited President Jonathan’s arrival at the Port Harcourt International Airport yesterday. Several other political appointees were at the airport to receive the president including Rivers Deputy Governor, Tele Ikuru, Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike and members of the PDP factions in the State.

Upon the arrival of the President, only Amaechi and Dickson joined him in the Presidential chopper that flew them to Okrika town.

Sources close to the camp of the Rivers Governor said nobody could know what was discussed in the aircraft, however the ride would have provided an opportunity for the President and the Governors to possibly iron out their political differences.

Security was tight in Okrika town as the President and First Lady made to perform the final rites for the First Lady’s deceased mother, Madam Charity Oba.

There were retinue of security men from the Army, Police, Department of State Security, Civil Defence Corps and Federal Road Safety Corps, guarding the town and the residence of the First Lady.
