French Prime Minister, Manuel Valls outlined a plan on Monday to fight homegrown Islamist radicalism, as part of an effort to crack down on networks that bolster terrorism.
Part of the plan includes doubling the capacity of de-radicalisation centres across France over the next two years, with the first of these centres to be opened in the next few months.
The centres are to include lodging for radicalsed people and their families, but Valls did not mention details of what their programmes would include.
“The plan, which includes 79 measures aimed at strengthening anti-terrorism efforts over recent years, will also reinforce anti-radicalisation surveillance in prisons.
“The fight against jihadism is the challenge of our generation”, Valls said.
He said that 1,600 people in France had been affected by radicalisation and 627 French people had departed to fight in Iraq and Syria. (dpa/NAN)
