Brigitte Bardot, an acting legend in France attacked the #MeToo movement, labelling it as ‘Hypocritical and Ridiculous”. She also suggested that many of the women involved were just trying to get their 15 minutes of fame.
Speaking to French magazine, Paris Match, the 83-year-old who used to be a sex symbol in the 60s, said that “lots of actresses try to play the tease with producers to get a role. And then, so we will talk about them, they say they were harassed.”
She also said that the “vast majority (of victims) are being hypocritical and ridiculous.”
Speaking on her own experiences, Bardot said she herself never experienced any form of sexual harassment and rather was pleased when men complimented her on her looks.
Bardot’s comments are not the first to come from France against the #MeToo movement, not long ago, Catherine Deneuve, another golden oldie of French cinema, faced serious backlash when she also criticised the #MeToo movement.
The 74-year-old had along with 100 other prominent French women, signed an open letter published in Le Monde that suggested that #MeToo had become “puritanical” and a “witch hunt” against men.
Deneuve later apologised for the statements.
