Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF) on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Profuturo Foundation to ensure proper education of Northern children toward eradicating the menace of Boko Haram in the region.
Mr Cesar Alierta, President of the Profuturo, signed on behalf of the foundation, while Gov. Kashim Shettima, Chairman, Northern States Governors Forum signed for the Forum in Abuja
Alierta said that unless children in the Northern part of the country were properly educated, the menace of Boko Haram may not be completely eradicated.
The MoU focuses on the education of children in Northern Nigeria deploying the digital platforms of the 24th century.
According to him, proper education of children and youths is very important for the whole world and especially for this region.
“We can`t beat Boko Haram with arms, but we know it can fully be defeated when the children of Northern Nigeria have access to proper education,’’ he said.
He thanked the foundation for its tenacity, ambition and relentless effort at ensuring that its dream of ensuring the education of children came true.
Also, Ms Sofia Fernandez, Protufuro Foundation, Managing Director, said the MoU was a blueprint that had already been applied in 14 operations of Latin America led by Profuturo and five African countries.
This, she said, included; Madagasca, Kenya, Tanzania,Angola and Uganda, adding that the MoU was made in compliance with Spanish laws.
She said the foundation would work with the Kukah Centre to detect and define specific operations in schools in Northern part of the country.
“There will be a co-team in Kukah Centre who will act as our project management.
“And we will count on the assistance of professionals that the secretariat of the Northern States Governors Forum will eventually and very soon apply,’’ she said.
Fernandez said that the foundation was poised to offer people, children and communities opportunities through the provision of access to quality education via digital means.
Also speaking at the event, Gov. Shettima of Borno, while applauding the gesture, said it would further foster inter communal and interface dialogue and understanding.
Shettima, who is the Chairman of the Northern States Governors Forum, commended Kukah and the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II for anchoring the programme, saying that it was a welcome development.
He said the programme would ensure communal harmony and co-existence in the 19 Northern states.
