Miles Taylor, the former chief of staff for the Department of Homeland Security under President Trump has endorsed Joe Biden’s presidential campaign.
Taylor, who was a longtime Republican and political appointee at DHS from 2017 to 2019 accused Trump of repeatedly using his office for political purposes, including directing officials to cut wildfire relief funding to California because voters there overwhelmingly opposed him in 2016.
“He told us to stop giving money to people whose houses had burned down from a wildfire because he was so rageful that people in the state of California didn’t support him and that, politically, it wasn’t a base for him,” Taylor told Washington Post.
Taylor also claimed that if Trump was told a certain course of action was illegal, he would say he had “magical authorities.”
According to the former aide, Trump seemed to have little interest in such national security subjects as cybersecurity, domestic terrorism and foreign influence into U.S. affairs.
“Like many Americans, I had hoped that Donald Trump, once in office, would soberly accept the burdens of the presidency — foremost among them the duty to keep America safe. But he did not rise to the challenge,
“Instead, the president has governed by whim, political calculation and self-interest.” Taylor wrote.
Although he says he is not a Democrat and doesn’t agree with Joe Biden’s key issues, Taylor says he is confident Biden will protect the country.

He said: “Given what I have experienced in the administration, I have to support Joe Biden for president and even though I am not a Democrat, even though I disagree on key issues, I’m confident that Joe Biden will protect the country and I’m confident that he won’t make the same mistakes as this President.”
