Mohammed Barkindo, a former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC has been confirmed as the new Secretary-General of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries, OPEC.
Mohammed Barkindo’s appointment confirms him as the replacement for Libya’s Abdalla El-Badri who had completed his full term in office.
Recall that Barkindo was the GMD of NNPC from 2009 to 2010 under the former president Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.
He has also been the Acting Secretary of the Organisation since 2006.
