A former Nigerian boxer, Francis Aiyegbeni has been reported dead.
Aiyegbeni was said to have passed away on Saturday May 7, 2016 at the University College Hospital, Ibadan.
Following his death, it was revealed that the former boxer and owner of D’Rovans hotel as well as Walan hotel struggled with partial stroke and thus suffered a crisis on Friday before he was rushed to the medical facility.
Before he was transferred to the University Teaching Hospital, UCH, the boxing enthusiast was said to have been admitted at the Police Hospital in Eleyele, also in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The Secretary General of the Nigerian Boxing Board of Control (NBB of C), Remi Aboderin, confirming the sad news said: “It is on fortunate that we have lost him at this time when we need him the most,”
He continued, “I can tell you Francis Aiyegbeni gave so much for the development of boxing in Nigeria and it is so unfortunate we have lost him.
“Yes, Nigeria will miss him as a whole, but the boxing community will feel his absence a lot.”
The Late boxing star, Aiyegbeni passed-on aged 69 and is survived by wives, many children and grandchildren.
