Former Flying Eagles Goalkeeper Raymond King Dead At 52

Raymond King, a former Flying Eagles goalkeeper died on Monday at the age of 52 after suffering a partial stroke and memory loss. He is survived by a wife and four children.

Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Secretary, Sanusi Lateef, spoke on the tragedy saying; “The association sympathises with his family and prays to God to be with his family and give them fortitude to bear the irreparable loss. King has been on hospital bed, with partial stroke, since last week,” he stated.

“He was initially admitted at the Ogun State General Hospital Ijaye, Abeokuta, before he was taken to the General hospital in Ikorodu, Lagos State, from where Lagos State Government stepped in and transferred him to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH),”

Taju Disu King’s former teammate, said: “Raymond was part of us and we tried to get the best of treatment for him but he has left us.”

King was a member of the 1979/80 Flying Eagles and he played for Shooting Stars of Ibadan, who he helped to a second place finish in the African Champions Cup in 1984 against Zamalek of Egypt

He moved from the Ibadan club to Abiola Babes FC where he won the 1987 FA Cup
