A former speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Zakawanu Garuba has died in Abuja on Saturday.
According to family sources, the Garuba, who was a two-term member of the state house died of an undisclosed ailment at a hospital in Abuja.
Zakawanu Garuba who is from Akpekpe, Auchi, Etasko-west Local Government was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1990 and was elected into the Edo State House of Assembly in 2003 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He served as Chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters and became speaker in 2007.

He was however impeached by members of the House to make way for Bright Omokhodion as Speaker in 2015.
After his second tenure in the House, Garuba was appointed into the board of the Securities and Exchange Commission as the Executive Commissioner, Finance and Administration.
Zakawanu Garuba was the Oshiote of Auchi, Kingdom, a devout Muslim and survived by a wife and three children.
