Popular musician Majek Fashek has said that in order to overcome the problem of mental illness in the Nigerian society, the federal government ought to pay more attention to mental illness by finding mental research and treatment.
While speaking during the 46th Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference of Association of Psychiatrists in Nigeria (APN), held at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) main auditorim, Fashek revealed that he was treated outside the country.
He said while abroad, he realised that “The difference is clear. The government of that country took the mental wellness of its citizens seriously.
“It has been found out that geniuses often fall ill, especially with mental illness. Government should not abandon its citizens in that situation. The good way is to also fund mental health research and treatment.”
