Nigerians awoke to the news that the treasurer of the faction monikered New PDP, Mallam Tanko Isiaku Gomna, had cross carpeted back to the old PDP and the welcoming arms of Bamanga Tukur after a change of heart had taken place.
The Alhaji was reportedly motivated back to loyalty by a mouth watering offer courtesy of the immense monetary chest of the PDP.
Sources revealed thus: “Our National Treasurer was summoned to the Villa in respect of an ongoing road project along Ogbomoso axis in Oyo State and others with the Federal Ministry of Works.
“On getting there, he was given the option of either resigning as the National Treasurer of Baraje’s faction or losing his plum contracts.”
PDP is money, and money wields all the power in Nigeria. Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the main financier of the rebel PDP faction is grossly unable to compete with the might of the power of the CBN. Compared to the PDP, Atiku has less than Don Jazzy money like he joked recently on Twitter. The campaign of the new PDP is going to be blindsided by petro dollars on a massive scale. The jig is up. In Nigeria, since the beginning of democracy, anytime you want the support of the opposition on any floor and in any arena, all you need to do is entice them with money. Mallam Gomna, new PDP treasurer, seems to be the first victim and it must be understood that a man who is an accountant/treasurer by profession is usually not moved by figures. He suddenly saw money of a different breed and was like those caught up in a rapture. That is what the old PDP is working with.
This morning YNaija asked if Rotimi Amaechi’s face was looking off during a meeting between the rebel faction of the PDP (G7) and President Jonathan and his coalition. Indeed Amaechi may have looked a bit disturbed. We are suddenly hearing words like ‘ceasefire’ which sounds like something coined by Akpabio, and another, ‘peace talks’.
Governor Godswill Akpabio who doubles as Chairman of the PDP Governor’s Forum said the opposition governors have ‘dropped’ their demand that GEJ drop his presidential ambition.
He said: “That is why I said that the processes are on and of course on the issue of 2015, both sides agreed that it wasn’t an issue for discussion because every single person has a right to have ambition.”
“Some of the governors may have ambition like I have ambition to go to Senate and you can’t discuss anything about another person’s ambition. You are the only person that can discuss your own ambition. Ambition is personal. So both parties agreed to that,” he added.
One thing is for certain, the PDP drama is eclipsing the APC at the moment.
