I was forced to donate to your library; refund my N10m with interest – Fayose tells Obasanjo

The Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Ayo Fayose on Monday he demanded the immediate return of his N10 million donation to former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s  library project with interest.

Fayose, who described the library project as one of the greatest frauds ever, said the 30 governors under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were compelled to donate N10m each in 2005 to the multi-billion naira project.

The library, which is in Abeokuta, Ogun state capital, was officially commissioned on Saturday, as part of activities to mark the former president’s 80th birthday.

It was was incorporated in November 2002, as a not-for-profit organisation.

But Fayose claimed that governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were forced to donate to the project.

He has asked the elder statesman to not only refund the money but add interest.

According to Lere Olayinka, spokesman of Fayose, the governor said this while speaking at the opening session of the PDP stakeholders’ meeting in the south-west.

“We were compelled to make the donation as PDP governors in 2005 and now I need the return of my money with interest,” Fayose said.

Describing the library as a fraudulent project, Fayose advised Obasanjo to stop seeing himself as a saint.

Fayose has accused Obasanjo of being behind his impeachment in 2006. He does not hesitate to attack the former president whenever he has the opportunity.

Recently, he said he no longer takes Obasanjo seriously because he talks to remain relevant.
